Woodland Fog

A walk in a piney woodland is always a treasure, but when graced with fog it is a treasure with a dividend, a happy bonus that transforms the woods into a realm of magic and mystery. The fog obscures not only the sight of the deeper woods, but also the sounds. Footsteps upon the lush, velvety forest floor are silent. The scurry of an animal is hushed. Perspective is confused, for all sights and sounds vanish quickly regardless of distance. Everything more than a few yards away loses color and fades into the gray stillness, which consequently makes the nearby colors feel richer and more palpable. Walking through the fog one feels the colors approach out of nothingness, pass vibrantly, and then fade back into the obscurity of the dim gray. A walk in a foggy woodland is like floating inside a bubble of color, perpetually surrounded by faded pallor. The dissipation of sight and sound brings a welcome, calming peace to mind and soul. There is nothing quite like a walk through a foggy woods.
