Yosemite Vision
I camped in Yosemite for a week at the end of May. Yosemite is a changeling. Her personality alters each day, so that even from the same spot I never saw the same scene twice.
Looking down into the Valley in early morning, just after daybreak, I watched as low clouds and ground mist danced and mingled, flashing teasing glimpses of the granite faces and ridges. In the dim light, color was just beginning to arrive, to accent the shades of gray, and I zoomed deeply into the cleft between the base of El Capitan and Cathedral Rocks, where mist rose from below, and the mountains extended upward behind clouds with no sky. Though I would also capture, at different times, the more familiar broad, wide-angle view of the valley, I have a fondness for this very different perspective, which seems more ominous, more looming and mysterious.
